Understanding Grief & Loss
“Healing doesn’t mean the loss didn’t happen. It means that it no longer controls us”
– David Kessler.
Grief and loss are a part of life. Everyone experiences them, and it can be difficult to navigate through the emotions of these experiences. Grief is the internal response to the death of a loved one, or the loss of something or someone meaningful to us.
It can manifest itself in both emotional and physical ways. It is often accompanied by feelings of sadness, anger, guilt, and loneliness.
The Power of Presence
Showing up for yourself is so important in our self-care to recognise what is happening around us, and to sometimes re-organise our priorities or emotions in order to stay true to ourselves and our happiness.
“Sometimes the bravest most important thing you can do is just show up” – Brené Brown.
The Value of Connection
“We don’t have to do it all alone. We were never meant to” – Brené Brown.
What does this mean to you? For you? Does this make you feel positive with hope or negative with sadness.
Self-compassion is the act of treating oneself with kindness and understanding during difficult times. It can involve being mindful and understanding of your experiences, speaking to yourself with compassion, and acknowledging your own needs and feelings. Self-compassion is becoming increasingly recognised as an important factor in emotional well-being and resilience.
Building a Therapeutic Alliance
Any of this sound familiar? Talking therapy can help you find your focus and purpose to be a more positive you and a more positive future.
Have you heard of a therapeutic alliance? It is a relationship between a client and a therapist that is based on a connection of trust, mutual respect, and understanding. It is the foundation of a successful therapeutic journey and is essential for the client to feel safe, understood, and supported. In this relationship, both the therapist and the client are actively engaged in the therapeutic process and collaborate to identify and work towards desired goals.
The therapeutic alliance is strengthened through open communication and collaboration, where the therapist and client work together to create a safe, therapeutic environment. The therapist also serves as a guide in helping the client understand their feelings, experiences, and thought processes.
Through the therapeutic alliance, the client can open up and begin to make progress towards their personal goals. The therapeutic alliance is an ongoing process that can grow and develop over time, allowing the client to feel safe and supported throughout their journey.
